Articles: What We Are Looking For

The Ellul Forum welcomes essay submissions of 6,000 to 9,000 words in length. Most of the submissions that we publish are thesis-based essays. We will evaluate your submission by the following criteria:

You pose a question or problem and demonstrate that this question or problem is important.

You offer an answer or solution. This is your thesis or claim.

You support your claim with persuasive reasons and evidence. This is your argument.

You demonstrate familiarity with Ellul’s thought and draws on his work. You may also draw on the work of others. You scrupulously cite your sources and use them accurately.

You write charitably, for a readership of intelligent non-specialists.

Your writing demonstrates the qualities of good prose style, with an emphasis on precise and expressive nouns and verbs.

An excellent guide to writing thesis-based essays is The Craft of Research by Wayne C. Booth et al. (University of Chicago Press).

Please send your submission as a Word document to ellulforum@gmail.com.
