Abstract

Drawing on the practices and theological underpinnings of the English spirituality that guided C.S. Lewis’s life of faith, Toby F. Coley shows how Lewis’s book The Four Loves can be read not just as a description of different kinds of love, but as a gentle manual for growth in Christian faith through spiritually formative practices.

Author Biography

  • Toby F. Coley, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor

    Toby F. Coley has a doctorate in rhetoric and writing from Bowling Green State University and spends most days trying to keep up with his prayers, editing, writing, teaching, or kids. He teaches at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he directs the biannual Windhover Writers’ Festival and is editor of the literary journal, The Windhover. His creative work has been featured in venues such as the The Windhover; North American AnglicanThe Cresset, Black & White; Red Ochre Press, and others. He has published a book with Peter Lang Press and has published on C.S. Lewis in VII: The Journal of the Marion E. Wade Center as well as Sehnsucht: The C.S. Lewis Journal.
