Abstract

Alan K. Snyder and Jamin Metcalf examine C.S. Lewis’s personal library of books, archived at the Marion E. Wade Center, to discover, in his marginal notes and underlinings, resonances with his published ideas on history and historicism, which they reveal to the reader.

Author Biographies

  • K. Alan Snyder, Southeastern University

    Dr. K. Alan Snyder has taught history for 35 years at four different Christian universities. He authored four books on American history but then changed his research goal to an in-depth examination of C.S. Lewis. This has resulted in two Lewis books: America Discovers C.S. Lewis: His Profound Impact (2016) and Many Times & Many Places: C.S. Lewis & the Value of History (2023). Dr. Snyder has presented papers at the C.S. Lewis Foundation’s Academic Roundtable, has spoken at the C.S. Lewis and Kindred Spirits Society for Central and Eastern Europe, and has given lectures on his two Lewis books at the Marion E. Wade Center.

  • Jamin Metcalf, Journey Church

    Jamin Metcalf is a pastor at Journey Church in Cottonwood, Arizona, as well as an adjunct professor at Nelson University. He holds a master’s degree in humanities from the University of Dallas, as well as degrees in history and theology from Southeastern University. He is also the author of Many Times & Many Places: C.S. Lewis and the Value of History (2023), The Brightest Star (2021), “C.S. Lewis and the Historical Imagination” (2023), and “Why Christian Pedagogy Matters” (2019).
